CariTrans is a Boundless/AvanyBridge/Sea Breeze Power venture that includes additional highly qualified advisors. It is an umbrella development company encompassing several related projects that form small networks individually and a Caribbean-wide network collectively.
Initiated in 2003, CariTrans includes the following components:
- US Virgin Islands: 160 MW HVDC Light interconnection between St. Croix and St. Thomas to reduce 100% spinning reserve requirements, enable development of renewables and Clean Coke and strengthen both islands’ grids. Project is before VI-WAPA as a result of RFP.
- Guyana – Trinidad – West Indies Islands – Dominican Republic – Puerto Rico: A series of HVDC Classic and Light and AC interconnections forming a network in the Eastern Caribbean to enable the development of diverse large hydro, geothermal and wind resources to be firmed by existing and new gas and Clean Coke to displace extremely costly, dirty and unreliable small scale diesel. Negotiations are under way with numerous governments, utilities and IPPs.
- Columbia – Panama – Costa Rico – Jamaica – Dominican Republic. A series of HVDC Classic and Light interconnections forming a network in the Western Caribbean to enable the development of diverse large hydro and wind resources
